Anyone can apply fake blood; Strategy Over Tragedy can do that, and we love to! However, we offer something MORE—something that no one else can: The A.C.E.S. program (Actor, Coach, Educator, Student/SAFETY). This program was designed to transform the traditional role of an actor, especially in the context of disaster response. With our background in psychology and response, Strategy Over Tragedy understands the importance of equipping first responders with actors who can function optimally under pressure. By providing specialized actor training, we educate actors to adjust their performance levels—scaling up or scaling back activity and chaos—by identifying observable signs in exercise participants. This enhances the learning environment to promote 'Eustress' functionality.
Our trained staff also conduct ongoing wellness checks on actors, ensuring that at a full scale, they are not only prepared but also monitored throughout the exercise.
If you were wondering what A.C.E.S. stands for, it is: Actor, Coach, Educator, Student/SAFETY. To break it down further, any actors you wish to utilize will first be matched with a role that aligns with your exercise objectives, allowing them to navigate with proper preparation.
In the 'A,' we prepare actors by advising them on specific observables to better understand when to increase or decrease pressure, as well as how to interact effectively with your observers and evaluators.
In the 'C,' we guide actors to also serve as a Coach. The extent of this coaching depends on your organization's objectives and the actors' knowledge base. For example, if they see someone about to overlook a leg injury, coaching may involve simply saying, 'Ouch, my leg REALLY hurts,' to prompt the participant constructively. They are also trained to provide meaningful real-time feedback, such as, 'My leg feels better with that splint tightened up!' Our goal is to train actors to genuinely care for PEOPLE, which enhances realism and fosters pro-social interactions that are crucial in the field, ultimately building success in your exercises.
Under 'E,' we have the actor not only as an Actor and Coach but also as an Educator. Imagine your exercise includes evacuating a simulated group home. Some of the actors might also be mental health professionals who can take on roles that are not suitable for actual clients for safety reasons. In their dual role as actor/Educator, they can incorporate de-escalation techniques and other critical aspects while navigating through the scenario together.
Finally, under 'S,' we have two key aspects that complete the A.C.E.S. program: The Actor as a Student. We prepare your actors to observe and learn from their experiences, enhancing their own skill set. By taking the opportunity to step back and view the unfolding process from a '30,000-foot view,' they can develop greater empathy and abilities. This insight is invaluable, especially when they experience the anxiety of waiting for 'rescue' and recognize that their patients will share similar feelings. The 'Student' component also bolsters learning for responders in the actor role, reinforcing the importance of our moulage training.
